Mayela-Vazquez-About.jpeg

Meet Mayela! She has over 12 years of experience working as a makeup and hair artist. She lives in New York City where she creates looks for international ad campaigns, celebrities, fashion editorials, runways and short films. Her work has been featured in multiple magazines including Vogue US, Spain, India Mexico, and Latin America Glamour, Elle, and Allure - just to name a few.

We asked her to share her favorite skincare products that she uses day and night to keep her skin looking and feeling its best. Your products should be applied from thinnest to thickest in consistency.

step 1: cleanse your face with micellar water

Micellar Water is cleansing water that removes make-up and dirt. Great option for day and night. Removes makeup and cleanses the face. It will leave your skin balanced (not oily or dry). This is perfect for both men and women. Mayela’s pick is H20 Micellar Water by Bioderma. Make sure to pick the right one based on your skin type.

step 2: anti-oxidant serum

It is recommended to have an anti-oxidant like vitamin C or a serum that treats/improves your skin concerns. You can use more than one serum in your skin routine. For example: you can use vitamin C during the day to protect your skin from UV exposure and a serum with retinol at night to reduce wrinkles. Mayela’s favorite is SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense. Below is a breakdown of different ingredients to look for in your anti-aging products. You can visit www.withinthetrend.com for more in-depth information.

step 3: “tap” in your eye cream or serum

Eye cream is as important as any other product in your skincare routine to prevent wrinkles, treat dark circles, improve texture, etc. Use your fingers to gently tap it in, this helps to improve circulation and collagen production. It is recommended to use it day and night. Mayela’s favorite is Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing & Dark Circle-Diminishing Vitamin C Eye Serum.

step 4: Hydrating cream / moisturizer

Using a moisturizer day and night is essential regardless of your skin type. When your skin is dry and irritated, it can cause breakouts and other skin problems. Mayela’s favorite is Sisley Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream for plumping and radiance.

step 5: Sun protector / spf

A must-have during the day. It is recommended to use a titanium and zinc mineral SPF. Protecting your skin from the sun will help prevent sun spots and sun damage from harmful UV rays. Mayela’s favorite brand is Tizo, which is great for all types of skin and could even work as a primer before makeup. They offer both tinted and non-tinted mineral sunscreen.

jade roller

This is by no means necessary, but it helps to de-puff, increase blood circulation and release tension. Mayela’s favorite is the Herbivore Jade De-Puffing Face Roller.
