Brandon Maxwell's Spring 2021 Collection Was Worth The Wait
BY: MEG LINDLEY
Brandon Maxwell debuted his Spring 2021 Collection this past Sunday, about 3 months after the NYFW shows. The Collection, as always, is beautifully tailored and strong yet simple. There are signature Maxwell silhouettes and details of course, but you can certainly see that a new mindset and inspiration is behind this season. A product of being in quarantine for the better part of a year.
Sweats Made Chic
It wasn’t surprising at all to see how Maxwell used terry fabric to create pieces that you would want to wear well beyond your morning coffee. The light heather grey makes a clear statement that these are the chicest sweats you’ll ever own. This adds a whole new category to streetwear.
A Strong Shoulder
Maxwell is known for his impeccable tailoring. He chose to use a raglan sleeve that creates a strong shoulder but also follows her curves at the same time. Making a sporty and often masculine silhouette look feminine. The ease in these looks supports our new need for a more comfortable wardrobe.
Sheer Pleats
Sheer pleating has been trending for a couple of seasons, but the colors used here are more playful than the metallics and patterns we have seen on the runway so far.
Sporty Silhouettes and Colors
Sporty details were sprinkled throughout the collection, between Nylon fabrics, a new hoody silhouette, and pops of neon colors.
wood grain pattern
A relatively new fabric pattern that has started popping up here and there is the wood grain jacquard. It has a distinct texure that pops on the runway.
signature sexy BM
It wouldn’t be a Maxwell show without a great maxi dress, a few cut out numbers, and a mini skirt.
