Pierpaolo Piccioli’s persona irradiates love, fun and an easiness about life. There is nothing presumptuous, elaborated or fake about him. He seems genuinely someone nice, and like his personality, his talent translates with the same easiness. You can clearly feel and see that he is someone who loves what he does. He is yet to feel stressed out, challenged or tired from the industry. If anything, he wants to always do more, and rather than fulfilling an ambition, it’s about the power of creating and the power of beauty.
Intelligently savvy, he understands and maintains Maison Valentinos’s core code but keeps it’s relevant, youthful and pertinent to reality. He firmly says that he is always open to listen to his team and does.
His Met conversation was inspiring to all fashion lovers and most importantly solidifies the fact that today he is the best in the industry because of his innate love for creating. He is not talking about the pressure or seasonal delivery that’s some designers complain about. He is not criticizing or minding others and or motives in a disrupted form. On the contrary, his message of inclusion and diversity conveys that fashion might always be sort of the same, but it has to adapt to the modern women.
He did so in his last couture show were he presented the largest number of colored models in one. He even took the inspiration of Cecil Beaton’s Charles James picture and adapted to today hence creating more beauty out of beauty.
His family values, his need to go back to his isolated Roman hometown to always be a dreamer makes his humbling personality the key to his success. His ability to listen to his daughter Nietzsche’s homework and apply it to a profesional philosophy proofs that to be the best one has to be always true to one’s self.
He might be the antithesis of character to Monsier Valentino. But the truthfulness of these two characters and their love for fashion makes the case point of two opposites can successes due to their lifelong talents and self honesty.
Pierpaolo Piccioli understands that couture is not for everyone but knows that everyone can dream from it and such a vision when creating makes his work infinitely mesmerizing and forever inspiring.
